5:21 pm on 21 September 2011

Police in French Polynesia have arrested nine people suspected of being part of an international drugs smuggling ring.

They say the arrests follow months of investigations and tracking payments between Tahiti and the US.

Local television says the network included a family that at times lived in the US.

Police say the trade involved the purchase of methamphetamine in the US and its sale in Tahiti at 15 times the price.

13 vehicles as well as cash in several currencies have been seized.
