Dozens of ni-Vanuatu students in New Caledonia still waiting on allowances

Dozens of ni-Vanuatu students studying in New Caledonia say they are still waiting on allowances owed by the government.

They say officials at the ministry of education continue to lie to them that the money has been transferred to their respective bank accounts but no deposits have been made.

Some will finish their studies next week and return to Vanuatu but without receiving the second installment on their allowances.

The first payment was made at the beginning of the year and the second was due in June.

Parliament early last month approved additional funding for the students and to cover the school fees of students in Tafea which was devastated by a cyclone earlier this year.

But our correspondent reports that in both cases the money has yet to be paid out.
