The son of the former Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, is accusing the O'Neill government of hijacking the police and the defence forces for its own political agenda.
Police last week arrested the chief justice, Sir Salamo Injia, over allegations he illegally redirected about 100,000 US dollars meant for the son of the late Justice, Timothy Hinchliffe.
Arthur Somare, a former minister, says the recent actions of the O'Neill administration point to serious political interference in the executive arm of government and the judiciary.
He says no past prime minister has ever tried to discredit a chief justice or a judge acting on a case against the State.
Mr Somare says the O'Neill regime's abuse of power surpasses anything seen before in PNG.
He says the Government must be brought to account.
