Fiji wants a Melanesian police force to resolve regional problems

8:31 pm on 15 March 2012

Fiji's acting Defence Minister, Colonel Samuela Saumatua, wants a regional police force set up, saying Melanesians are capable of solving their own problems without outside interference.

At a Melanesian Spearhead Group police commissioner's conference in Suva he's urged the establishment of a law enforcement agency from the member countries to resolve issues the Melanesian way.

Colonel Saumatua says MSG countries need to readjust their focus to nurture meaningful partnerships among themselves.

He says Melanesians are capable of resolving their own problems despite the limitations and constraints that they may face.
