The coach of the top cricket team in the East Asia/Pacific region says a place at the 2014 Twenty20 world cup is a realistic goal.
Cricket's governing body, the ICC, has declared it will expand the cup from a 12 to 16 team competition with the current ten full members to be be joined by six qualifiers.
Last month Papua New Guinea competed at a 16 team, 2012 world cup qualifier in Dubai and finished mid table while Ireland and Afghanistan won passage to this year's cup in Sri Lanka
Recently appointed coach, Peter Anderson, says Papua New Guinea showed off its potential in Dubai.
"We're that close to the top associate countries. There were three games that we were that close to winning. Its just about getting that cricket awareness and playing a lot more cricket. The top associate countries, Afghanistan, Ireland they're straight into three tournaments after Dubai. In my point of view I think we had the most talented cricketers in Dubai, instinctive wise, talent wise, the guys played fantastic cricket."
