The Tonga Rugby Union says it will advertise the 'Ikale Tahi head coaching post within the next week.

Toutai Kefu led the team during the recent Pacific Nations Cup matches in Japan, with technical advisor Chris Hickey filling in for this weekend's clash with Fiji in Lautoka.

The contract of the previous head coach, Isitolo Maka, expired following last year's Rugby World Cup tournament.

TRU Chairman Epeli Taione says all interested candidates are invited to apply for the role, dismissing reports he had already offered the post to Blues Super Rugby boss Pat Lam.

"It will be tendered out - it's for all the coaches to apply for. I was with Pat Lam in Hong Kong last week. Just a conversation - he asked a question about the role. The role is available but to every candidate they have to apply for and the process through the independent panel and that will be applied the same for every candidate."
