Court ruling still leaves Tahiti nuclear test veterans dismayed

The French Polynesian nuclear test veterans organisation says there is no victory in the latest court ruling which nullified the rejection of a compensation claim for ill-health caused by the French weapons tests.

Moruroa e tatou says being able to file a new compensation claim after waiting for 11 years for this ruling means that the six victims concerned still have received nothing.

Its head, Roland Oldham, says the whole system is flawed and full of hypocrisy.

"We have to stop this rubbish - there is too much injustice for the victims that have been suffering or are dead now, and their families have been waiting for over ten years. We are not going to wait another ten years, not at all."
