Nauru's first dual-purpose search and rescue ship is expected to arrive next month.
The half million dollar vessel has been funded by Russia and built in New Zealand.
At present the Nauru Fisheries and Marine Resources Authority, which responds to distress calls, uses its own fishing boats or relies on community assistance.
