A Papua New Guinea leadership tribunal has recommended to the Governor General that Fidelis Semoso be removed as the member for Bougainville Provincial.

Semoso was last week found guilty of misconduct in office.

He was charged with misappropriating about 1.3 million US dollars and sexually assaulting and torturing a woman.

The tribunal found him not guilty on several allegations.

The ruling was made in the absence of Semoso, who was still in Bougainville.

He is currently polling third in the Bougainville Provincial seat.
