Two women and two men have been charged with producing pornographic videos, in a police crackdown on pornography in Tonga.

The Matangi Tonga website reports the assistant police commander, 'Unga Fa'aoa, as saying four people have been charged with the production of pornographic videos.

He says there is a lot of pornographic material circulating in Tongatapu, sent from phone to phone.

Mr Fa'aoa says they are locally produced videos shot on mobile phones, and police are working with the phone companies to combat it.

The police commissioner, Grant O'Fee, says the police were concerned with this sort of crime as it involved young people, and it was an ugly and distressing crime that happened everywhere, including Tonga.
