Australia and New Zealand are unbeaten after day one of the Oceania Women's Sevens Championship in Lautoka.

Australia topped Pool A with big wins over Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea and Samoa.

PNG were the surprise package after upsetting Samoa 17-10 in the first game of the tournament.

Over in Pool B, New Zealand were untroubled in one-sided victories over Tonga and Cook Islands before holding off the host nation, Fiji, 19-7 in the final match of the day.

Australia will play Cook Islands in the first quarter final at midday today local time, with the top-ranked team outside of New Zealand and Australia advancing to the final stage of World Cup qualifying in October.
