3:13 pm on 30 August 2012

The Kiribati President, Anote Tong, says it will very soon be time for Fiji to be re-admitted to the Pacific Islands Forum.

Fiji has been suspended from the regional group, which is currently holding its leaders' meeting in the Cook Islands, since 2009.

Mr Tong says Fiji will always be part of the region, despite being temporarily isolated.

"I don't about being vocal well I know about being rational, yes, I think my approach has always been rational, because I believe in dialogue. We're a group of Pacific Islands, we believe in dialogue and I continue to advocate that we must dialogue and I'm glad that there is a change of view. And it's always been there to be done and I think that perhaps we got distracted at the process."

Leaders of the Pacific countries of the African, Caribbean and Pacific group have agreed to hold a special meeting, outside of the Forum process, so Fiji can be more involved in that dicsussion.
