US President congratulates Fiji on 42nd anniversary of independence

The US President, Barack Obama, says the American people continue to support Fijians in their quest to draft a new constitution and return to democracy.

In his National Day message, President Obama says he is confident the close relationship between the US and Fiji will strengthen as the people of Fiji work to build a more free and prosperous future.

President Obama says the US shares a mutual commitment to peace, freedom, the rule of law, democratic principles and respect among nations.

He says the close ties between Fijians and Americans are a product of shared commitment to these core values.

Fiji Village online says in his letter, President Obama extending his sincere congratulations to the people of the Republic of Fiji and the commemoration of Fiji's 42nd anniversary of independence.
