American Samoa has agreed to support a cabotage waiver from Apia-based Samoa Air to the US Federal Aviation Administration to provide air services to Manu'a's Ofu island.

Ofu island has been without a commercial air service since Pago Pago-based Inter Island Airways discontinued flights to the island about three years ago, citing the runway is too short for its aircraft.

The American Samoa Government aircraft Segaula flies to the island however the service has been irregular as the aircraft is often down.

A communique issued at the end of the inter Samoa talks in Pago Pago on Tuesday says American Samoa will support a waiver of the cabotage rule which prohibits a foreign carrier from flying directly between two US points, that is from American Samoa's main island of Tutuila to Ofu, Manu'a.
