An eight-year-old boy from the village of Samamea, in Samoa, may face charges, over the death of his 5 year old cousin.

The 8 year old boy was taken into police custody after the incident Wednesday night.

The deceased boy, whose name has been withheld, was visiting from New Zealand.

His uncle has also been taken in for questioning.

The Samoa Observer reports that the man had taken the two boys with him to shoot some pigeon and collect coconuts for dinner.

He left a loaded gun under a tree while looking for a stick to carry home the coconuts.

It is believed the two boys fought over the gun when it fired.
