Vanuatu government delays appointment of new police commissioner

7:22 pm on 10 December 2012

The Vanuatu Government, through its Police Service Commission, has re-appointed Arthur Caulton as acting police commissioner for another four months after failing to make a permanent appointment.

The post became vacant when Joshua Bong's contract expired at the end of September.

Mr Caulton was already the acting commissioner at that point with Mr Bong having been on what he called forced leave since May.

The friction between the two men sparked mutual accusations of mutiny.

Meanwhlle the Commission is reported to have 3 names short listed but has not yet forwarded a name to the President.
