Fiji military maintains criticism of Constitution Commission

Fiji's military has continued its criticism of the Constitution Commission and the draft it produced.

The Land Force Commander, Colonel Mosese Tikoitoga, has told the website Fijilive that he believes it was influenced by another country because its work was funded by the Australian aid agency AusAID.

He says judging from their actions and comments, the Commission members would have felt they were not answerable to the Fiji government and its people.

The Commission was chosen by the Fiji interim government and included a Kenyan and a South African.

The military has largely rejected the draft constitution which is based on 7,000 submissions amounting to the most comprehensive stock-take of people's concerns and aspirations in years.
