12:36 pm on 6 February 2013

American Samoa's Governor Lolo Matalasi Moliga has urged young people attending the inaugural Future Leaders of the Pacific Summit in Pago Pago to learn as much as possible from experts on pressing issues facing the region.

The summit is sponsored by the US embassies in New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa as well as the East West Center in Hawaii, and attended by young leaders from all Pacific Island Forum countries.

Governor Lolo addressed some of the issues on the conference agenda, like non communicable diseases.

"We are very susceptible to epidemics and given our lack of resources to respond accordingly, we must find new pathways to reduce our risk."
