Custom land owners on the island of Tanna in Vanuatu are threatening to lock the doors of a local college if the government fails to meet their demands by Tuesday.
In a letter to the Ministry of Education, they insist they be paid money promised for rent of their land.
The owners say that in 1991, the government promised to pay more than 40,000 US dollars a month for the land but not all the money has been paid.
They allege the government has an outstanding bill of more than 180,000 US dollars.
Representatives of the land owners have recently been in Port Vila to discuss their claims with the Ministry of Education.
