PNG cabinet minister arrested for bribery and corruption

A government minister in Papua New Guinea has been arrested and charged with bribery and corruption in relation to last year's national elections.

According to the newspaper, The National, the Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Minister, David Arore, was charged on Saturday, following an investigation into bribery and corruption against two returning officers in the Ijivitari and Sohe electorates.

Mr Arore, who has been released on bail, is the member of parliament for Ijivitari.

It is alleged that Mr Arore facilitated airline tickets, travel allowances, meals and lodging at the Grand Papua Hotel in Port Moresby for the two returning officers.
