The total cost of last year's Cyclone Evan for Fiji is estimated at 108 million US dollars, or about 2.6 percent of its Gross Domestic Product.

Fiji Village reports the figure comes from the country's first ever Post-Disaster Needs Assessment.

The Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management, Colonel Inia Seruiratu, says the cost of destruction or damage to physical assets is estimated to be just under 70 million US dollars.

An additional 41 million dollars was identified as losses to the economic flows that are expected to occur in the short to medium term.

Colonel Seruiratu says about 60 percent of the total population was affected in the post disaster period.
