The Governor of the Northern Marianas has proposed merging some government agencies and privatising park maintenance and sports administration in his 2014 budget.
Governor Eloy Inos is proposing a balanced budget of 123 million US dollars, a ten million dollar increase on last year due to growth in the tourism sector.
The budget will also remove deputy positions and vacant new posts in the public sector, except for those announced.
Funding for public schools will increase by three million dollars, and 20 million dollars will be set aside for the troubled NMI Retirement Fund.
A general fund subsidy of nearly two million dollars has been allocated for the Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation.
