The United States says Papua New Guinea has to make a greater effort to eliminate human trafficking.
The State Department, in its annual Trafficking in Persons report, says PNG is a source, destination and transit country for men, women and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labour.
It details sex trafficking, domestic servitude and forced labour in logging and mining camps.
It says there are reports of trafficking involving children, including girls as young as five, being subjected to commercial sexual exploitation or forced labour by members of their immediate family or wantok.
The report also says some of the victims are lured from Asia by Asian crime rings, foreign logging companies or business people, who arrange for them to enter PNG on fraudulent visas, before forcing them into prostitution or domestic servitude.
It says the PNG Government is not complying the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking.
