Police in New Caledonia have extended the detention of a 25-year-old man accused of shooting four people in Noumea on Tuesday.
Michel Apikaoua wounded the four after he fetched a rifle at the end of a night of drinking.
The public prosecutor says the man is disputing charges that he planned to kill the victims.
One of the injured is reportedly in a coma.
The incident has revived the debate about excessive drinking in the territory and the recent relaxation of New Caledonia's firearm laws.
