Australian govt ordered to table Nauru complaints

Australia's Senate has ordered the country's government to table a year's worth of incident reports and complaints of sexual abuse in Canberra's asylum seeker detention centre on Nauru.

The Senate last night approved the motion put forward by the Green Party's Sarah Hanson-Young, which ordered that the documents be tabled no later then 3pm on Thursday.

Ms Hanson-Young says that after months of reports of shocking conditions inside the centre, allegations of children being assaulted and women threatened with rape can not be swept under the carpet.

She says Australia's government has failed to respond adequately to reports of inappropriate behaviour on Nauru.
