FLNKS maintains New Caledonia lists rigged

New Caledonia's pro-independence FLNKS Movement says it has drawn to the attention of the French president its concerns about what it calls the ongoing electoral fraud.

In a statement issued a day after Francois Hollande's visit, it says there is no equidistance possible between fraud and the application of the Noumea Accord.

This comes as Mr Hollande re-affirmed to local leaders the French state's impartiality as the territory's Congress is to organise an independence referendum by 2018.

But the FLNKS says it still wants the United Nations to mediate on the issue of the electoral lists, insisting they are rigged.

It also wants the French state to modify the commissions that vet the lists, to strike off voters who are ineligible and add those Kanaks who have been unduly left off.
