Kua to help fund PNG literary award

5:26 pm on 1 December 2014

Papua New Guinea's former Attorney-General Kerenga Kua has contributed almost eight thousand US dollars to allow the next instalment of the country's top literary awards to proceed.

The contribution from the Sinasina-Yongomugl MP fills a gap after the Australian High Commission in PNG stopped funding the Crocodile Prize.

The Commission gave no reason for its withdrawal earlier this month.

PNG Attitude reports the donation will assist the Simbu Writers Association to host the Crocodile Prize ceremony next September, including travel and accommodation for winners.

Now in its fifth year, the Crocodile Prize has grown to become a significant focus of PNG's burgeoning literary landscape.
