Sport: Progress on track in PNG for Pacific Games

12:25 pm on 13 January 2015

The Pacific Games Council says it will be a tight finish but progress remains on track less than six months out from the start of the 2015 Games in Port Moresby.

Contractors are still working around the clock to complete venues and accommodation in time for the 28-sport event in July.

The Executive Director of the Pacific Games Council, Andrew Minogue, says the facilities are moving ahead very quickly and, while it will still be a close finish, everything looks good.

"We had some information just last week that the Games Village is actually doing a little bit better than what we perhaps thought at this sort of stage of the development. We might have more of the accommodation blocks finished than we actually need and that would be very very welcome".

Andrew Minogue says he will be in Port Moresby for a further update later this month.

Delegates from the 28 sports as well as the respective Chef de Missions will also travel to PNG in March for meetings.
