Foreign investors 'rushing' into Fiji

The CEO of Fiji's Denarau Marina says the democratic elections have caused a resurgence in investor interest in Fiji.

Nigel Skeggs, who is preparing for a new major upgrade to the popular port, says he has remained optimistic in Fiji, but key overseas investors are now rushing in to invest, following the elections in September - the first since 2006.

The marina is the tourists' gateway to the resorts in the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands, and transfers 780,000 people a year, as well as another 7,000 cruise ship passengers.

Nigel Skeggs says the marina has invested over $10 million US dollars over the last six to seven years.

"So we've always had the confidence in Fiji, we've known that it was a good time to invest, we've seen quite significant growth in all of our markets, double-digit growth year on year, and of course now, that others are seeing the potential, I think it's very encouraging for Fiji."
