The acting Bougainville electoral commissioner, George Manu, says he will ask police to investigate an incident in Buka where a candidate shut down a polling station.

Mr Manu's office says the incident happened on Wednesday, the third day of the two-week-long election in the autonomous Papua New Guinea region.

He has called the candidate's actions in shutting in down the station selfish and irresponsible.

The electoral commissioner says the station was re-opened.

Mr Manu says there is an appropriate way for people to raise complaints instead of resorting to force to shut down a station.

He says he is discussing the matter with the regional police commander.
