A tropical depression near Samoa could develop into a category one cyclone, the Fiji Met Service says.
Samoa has experienced flooding and strong winds during the past two days and could be set for more, with a disturbance about 500km from Faleolo on the main island.
Fiji Met Service director Ravind Kumar said the disturbance intensified overnight and now had a tropical depression status.
"This is the one which is located about 500 north north east of Faleolo and this is anticipated to further intensify in the next 12 to 36 hours. And is has a high probability, a moderate to high probability to intensify into a category one system."
Mr Kumar said there was a low probability a disturbance to the west of Tuvalu could also develop and intensify but a strong wind warning remained in place for Tuvalu, Tokelau, Niue and the Cook Islands.
The Samoa Metservice issued a heavy rain warning and said flooding was possible.
