Fiji is expecting eight planeloads of relief from China this week to help with the country's recovery after Cyclone Winston.

The Chinese government has pledged a further US$7 million worth of relief items on top of its initial donation of US$1 million.

The items which are expected to arrive on Thursday include thousands of tents, blankets, first aid kits and torches as well as portable generators and water ourification tablets.

Charge d'Affaires at the Chinese Embassy in Suva Gu Yu said the 6-thousand tents can be used as shelter and classrooms.

Fiji has also received more than 80 tonnes of relief supplies, mostly in the form of shelter kits, from the International Organisation for Migration.
