Vanuatu checking on cyclone promises

5:00 pm on 28 September 2016

There are reports from Vanuatu that some promises of aid after last year's Cyclone Pam have not yet been received by the government.

Radio Vanuatu News said the Prime Minister Charlot Salwai raised the matter at a press conference after returning from the UN meeting in New York.

Mr Salwai acknowledged the overwhelming response of many to the relief fund, either directly or through NGOs.

But he said his government wanted to check that amounts promised had contributed to restoration of services and not been lost along the way.
