In Vanuatu the custom chiefs on the island of Aneityum have put a permanent ban on the sale of alcohol on neighbouring Mystery Island which has a booming tourism industry.

The spokesman for the tourist market on Mystery Island, Makoya Ben, said the chiefs were adamant no alcohol would be sold on the island after they experienced its negative impact on young people.

The Managing Director of South Sea Shipping, John Tonner, has suggested a tourist only bar selling alcohol and drinks to those visiting by boat.
