Papua New Guinea have booked their spot in next year's ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier after sealing a top-four finish in the World Cricket League Championship.

Hong Kong's defeat of Nepal in Mong Kok ensured the Netherlands and Barramundis could not drop any lower than fourth with one round of matches remaining.

PNG split their one-day series against Scotland in Port Moresby earlier this month 1-1, bouncing back from a 101 run defeat to win the finale by five wickets, and sit second in the Championship standings - two points behind the Dutch - with eight wins from 12 matches.

The Barramundis' next opponents, Hong Kong, will now battle it out with Scotland and Kenya in December's final round for the two remaining World Cup Qualifier berths, with that event to take place in Zimbabwe in March.

The winner of the World Cricket League Championship will also qualify for the newly announced ODI league, which also features the 12 full ICC member countries.

In the first edition of the league, each side will play four home and four away series each comprising of three ODIs moving to all teams playing each other from the second cycle onwards.
