Blenheim-based clean-tech company CarbonScape has developed and patented microwave technology to convert biomass such as forestry waste into high-value carbon products, including activated carbon, graphite and coking fuel known as green coke.

This year, the company is preparing to supply green coke to New Zealand Steel, New Zealand’s sole producer of flat rolled steel products for the building and agricultural industries, which will use it as an additive in its steel making operation at Glenbrook to reduce carbon emissions.
