Telecom boss shrugs off prospect of more competition

8:35 am on 1 October 2012

New Telecom chief executive Simon Moutter says he is not in the least bit threatened by the potential increased competition from the merger of TelstraClear and Vodafone.

Earlier this year Vodafone bought TelstraClear for $840 million and analysts say the combined company will provide stronger competition to Telecom.

Mr Moutter says he is not threatened by this and believes Telecom can meet Vodafone head on in the market. "We'll take them on and we'll win," he says.

Mr Moutter says Telecom now has a fantastic smartphone network.

He plans to deliver his new strategic vision for Telecom at the start of next year.
