New Zealand sharemarket up

The NZX50 index was up 18 points to close at 3889 on turnover of $114 million dollars on Wednesday.

At 5.50pm the New Zealand dollar was buying 82.24 US cents, 80.43 Australian, 51.01 pence, 64.31 yen and 0.6376 euro. The Trade Weighted Index was at 73.44.

Contact was up 3 cents to $5.30, Fisher & Paykel Appliances was unchanged at $1.205 and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was unchanged at $2.27.

Mainfreight was up 6 cents to 10.45, Freightway was up 4 cents to $4.31 and Fletcher Building was up 18 cents to $7.34.

Nuplex was up 16 cents to $3.09, Chorus was up 1 cent to $3.29, Telecom was up 0.5 cents to $2.405 and the Warehouse was up 7 cents at $3.02.

New Zealand Farming Systems Uruguay was up 4 cents to 74 cents after its major shareholder Olam International said it planned to make a full takeover offer at 75 cents a share.

Tower was up 3 cents to $1.80, Xero was down 8 cents to $5.32 after saying it expects to double operating revenues in the first six months.

APN was up 8 cents to 53 cents after talk that the Australian publisher has found a buyer for its New Zealand assets which include the New Zealand Herald.
