Auckland-based Mako Networks has formed a partnership to provide its cloud-based payment card security service to the Australian market.

The company entered into an agreement with Sydney-based IP Solutions International to sell Mako's Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard services to merchants to help mitigate fraud risks.

The system secures computer networks used to transmit payment transactions.

Mako is one of the few companies in the world that meets new security standards to help prevent card fraud, which all businesses must soon comply with.

Mako chief executive Bill Farmer says the system has been sold through the northern hemisphere for the past four years and now the payments business in Australasia is starting to reinforce the need for credit card security.

He says Mako had 15 staff three years ago, it now has 65 and is looking to employ another 30 this year.
