Domestic sales of cars, trucks and buses in Japan fell by a record amount in April, after the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.
The Japan Automobile Dealers Association says sales last month were 51% lower than a year earlier, as production was halted and supply chains were broken.
It says sales will continue to be subdued in the months ahead because of a continuing shortage of parts.
The decline followed a fall of 37% in vehicle sales in March.
