No advance warning of land required

Landowners in Christchurch's central business district will not be told in advance if their land is earmarked for one of the anchor projects being planned to help kick-start development in the city.

The Government's Central Christchurch Development Unit is due to announce its blueprint for the centre of the city by the end of the month.

Answering questions from Christchurch city councillors on Thursday, Earthquake Recovery Authority chief executive Roger Sutton said it is not possible to advise landowners in advance that their land will be required.

Mr Sutton said a process similar to the one used for residents in the red zone will be put in place once the announcement is made.
