Christchurch City Council members say there is confusion over whether the council is legally bound to develop Hagley Oval into an international cricket venue.
Councillor Yani Johnason says the council will meet Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee on Friday to seek clarification of the inclusion of an international cricket ground at Hagley Park in the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan.
Canterbury Cricket is seeking a lease that would allow development of the oval. A council committee on Tuesday decided to send a decision on whether to grant the lease to the full council.
Mr Johanson said the minister needs to make clear what decisions the council may or may not be able to make on the future of Hagley Park.
