Home owner's wait goes on

It will be several more days before Canterbury home owners affected by the earthquake will find out what plans are in store for their land.

Cabinet on Monday discussed a geotechnical report that has found the vast majority of land damaged in the quake can be fixed in a cost-effective way.

Prime Minister John Key says the information will be released either this week or next week.

Mr Key says a lot of work has been undertaken with insurers, banks and the council, so that home owners can rebuild once repairs are carried out on their land.

He says there will be some homes that cannot be rebuilt, but on the advice he has received, the number is quite small.
