Commissioner replaces school's board of trustees

A commissioner has replaced the board of trustees at an earthquake-stricken school and there is no guarantee it will be reinstated.

Education Minister Anne Tolley says the change at Linwood College in Christchurch is a short-term measure only.

However, it has not been decided whether the board will be put back in place later.

The school was not damaged in the February earthquake, but was given a yellow sticker after a subsequent aftershock.

The new commissioner, Janet Kelly, says extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.

Ms Kelly says the outgoing board members would not necessarily have been available when decisions had to be made.

She says board members will still be able to offer advice but will not make any decisions.
