Mini library opening in Christchurch

A new mini-library to open in Christchurch's inner city this week will put some of the books from the quake-damaged central library back into circulation.

The Central South City Library is setting up in a refurbished shop on Colombo Street where about 7000 popular items from other Christchurch libraries will be displayed.

City Council libraries and information manager Carolyn Robertson says the mini library, which opens on Friday, says it is a tiny collection in comparison with the 330,000 items in the main library.

Ms Robertson says the council is looking for other central city locations where more mini libraries can be started.

Most Christchurch libraries have now re-opened following the 13 June aftershocks.
