The New Zealand military contingent going to Papua New Guinea to help people vote in the election will not be armed during the deployment.
Three RNZAF Iroquois helicopters and 40 personnel will be part of a contingent of 250 with the Australian military.
Their assistance was requested so a safe, free and fair election can be held later in June.
Wing Commander Shaun Clark of No 3 squadron says they will take ballot boxes to remote parts of the country and do not expect any political violence.
