Court reserves Urewera case bail decision

The Court of Appeal has reserved its decision on whether two people convicted in the Te Urewera raids case will receive bail.

At the High Court in Auckland in May, Tame Iti and Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara were sentenced to two and a half years prison for their involvement in military style camps in Te Urewera National Park in 2007.

Their lawyers have lodged appeals against their sentence and convictions, and are applying for the men to be allowed out on bail until those appeals are heard.

The application for bail was heard in the Court of Appeal in Wellington on Tuesday and Iti's lawyer, Russell Fairbrother, says and they are now waiting for the ruling.
