Ministry told to keep out of employment dispute

School Trustees Association president Lorraine Kerr says it would be inappropriate for the Ministry of Education to intervene in a dispute between the principal of Christchurch Girls High School and its Board of Trustees.

Principal Prue Taylor was sacked by the board earlier this month, but the Employment Relations Authority granted her interim reinstatement.

The ministry has said a limited statutory manager could be brought in to manage the situation.

But Mrs Kerr told Morning Report that the ministry is not the employer and it should not interfere in board matters.

She says she believes a key reason for tensions between boards and principals is the rising number of compliance issues facing schools and lack of support from the Government.
