Police have formally identified the body found in Oamaru Valley at the scene of a helicopter crash as that of the pilot.
He was Mark Duncan Didsbury, who was 39.
The Wairarapa man's body was airlifted out of the central North Island high country on Sunday afternoon.
The Robinson R66 helicopter he was flying went missing about 1pm on Saturday and wreckage of the aircraft was spotted from air at about 7pm that day.
Inspectors from the Transport Accident Investigation Commission will lead the investigation into the cause of the crash.
