Holiday weekend road toll stands at zero

The Labour Weekend road toll so far stands at zero.

During last year's holiday weekend three people were killed and 112 injured.

National manager of road policing Superintendent Carey Griffiths says people need to take particular care on the roads on Sunday night.

"Sunday night is still a risky time for us on Labour weekend as people do consume a fair bit of alcohol."

He says if people are going out on that night, either drink or drive but don't do both.

"And make smart choices about who you get in the car with, too many passenger are being killed by drunk drivers."

Mr Griffiths says the official Labour weekend holiday period ends at 6am Tuesday.
